Two programs from the Educa educational segment, managed by the Ministry of Education, Sport and Culture, have been nominated for the 2025 TAL Awards. These awards are organized by the Latin American Public Television Network (Red TAL) to promote public service television in the region and recognize excellence in Latin American audiovisual content.

In 2024 and 2025, Educa produced two educational series: “Juntos por la Democracia” and “¡Te Cuento!”. Both were broadcast on national television channels according to Ecuador’s Organic Law of Communication, as well as on Educa’s online channel (www.educa.ec) and its YouTube channel (@educatele).

The series “Juntos por la Democracia” was developed in coordination with the Institute for Democracy, National Electoral Council (CNE), and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). It focuses on civic education not only as theoretical knowledge but also as active practice involving children and adolescents. The program promotes student participation in electoral processes at school that are linked to national elections. The initiative is especially targeted at students aged 16 to 18, who have had optional voting rights since Ecuador’s 2008 Constitution. According to those involved, this aims to strengthen students’ understanding of democracy and their engagement with issues that directly affect them.

The program “¡Te Cuento!” is based on the policy “Juntos leemos,” which emphasizes cognitive skills development through recreational, inclusive, and intercultural reading activities. It encourages participation from the entire educational community with a goal of democratizing access to knowledge. The show provides teaching alternatives for educators while seeking to improve access to reading materials as tools for critical thinking, communication skills, research promotion, creativity, intergenerational encounters through reading, and equal access to information.

In early August 2025, Educa submitted five programs for consideration by Red TAL: under Educational Content—“¡Ni saben!”, “Somos valores”, “Eugenia y la robótica”, “¡Te cuento!”; under +Democracy—“Juntos por la Democracia”. An international curatorial committee reviewed submissions from broadcasters across several countries. During a live ceremony following this review process, nominations were announced: “¡Te cuento!” was selected in Educational Content while “Juntos por la Democracia” was chosen in +Democracy.

The awards ceremony will take place on Tuesday December 16th, 2025. The jury will include three internationally recognized professionals from artistic production and academic communications fields. Their names and biographies will be presented publicly via award platforms prior to the event.

According to ministry representatives: “This government agency maximizes its policy reach using a robust edu-communicational strategy. Through the Educa educational segment it ensures broad and equal access to educational material where technology and pedagogy combine to create tools that empower both students and teachers.”
