The Vice President of the Republic, María José Pinto, announced on April 9 that immediate coordination was arranged to provide specialized medical care for three children from the canton of Taisha who are being treated for pneumonia at Vicente Corral Moscoso Hospital in Cuenca. One of the children was discharged earlier in the day and is returning home after nearly two months of hospitalization.

Cristina Kasent, mother of one of the patients, said: “Yo sufrí mucho, pero ahora me voy tranquila porque mi hijo está recuperado. Estuvo 14 días en la UCI pediátrica, con neumonía. Estoy muy agradecida con el hospital y su personal médico.”

Meanwhile, twins who were also receiving treatment for severe pneumonia, septic shock, and acute respiratory distress syndrome are showing favorable progress. The children will be transported by small aircraft to Macas General Hospital to continue their treatment now that they have overcome their critical condition.

A multidisciplinary team at Vicente Corral Moscoso Hospital has been working closely to support the children’s recovery. The specialized attention provided has contributed to their positive development.

Additionally, on April 8 a new pediatric patient from Twintza with similar respiratory issues was admitted to Vicente Corral Moscoso Hospital and is currently receiving care in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit.

According to officials, the national government will continue efforts across different regions to bring health services closer to remote communities. Plans include providing timely medical attention, completing vaccination schedules for local children, and promoting preventive health measures.
