The Corporación Eléctrica del Ecuador (CELEC EP) announced on April 1 that its Termogas Machala business unit has completed scheduled maintenance on the TM1 generation unit, which has a capacity of 20 megawatts.
The maintenance is part of CELEC EP’s preventive planning to keep equipment in optimal condition and ensure continuous and reliable electricity generation for the country. According to the organization, the work was carried out by professionals who inspected both electrical and mechanical systems of the turbine, generator, and auxiliary equipment. Sensors, motors, control systems, fuel supply, ventilation, and cooling systems were also checked to prevent potential failures and guarantee safe operation.
A key technical activity during this process was a boroscopic inspection. This procedure involves inserting a special camera inside the turbine to observe internal components in hard-to-reach areas. The review helps identify any wear or minor anomalies early so that preventive corrections can be made before major damage occurs.
The manufacturer recommends this type of maintenance every six months. In addition to technical inspections, workers reviewed safety systems, replaced filters, examined critical components, and conducted comprehensive checks on control and operational systems.
CELEC EP said it continues working to keep its generation units operational as part of efforts to maintain stability in Ecuador’s electricity supply.
