The Unidad Educativa Especializada Beatriz Jarrín in Ibarra held a series of activities on April 8 to commemorate World Autism Day. The event brought together 170 students, parents, and education authorities for an inclusive gathering featuring a fashion show, theatrical performances, and puppet shows.

The occasion highlighted the importance of awareness and support for students with autism spectrum disorder. In Zone 1—which includes the provinces of Imbabura, Carchi, Esmeraldas, and Sucumbíos—462 students with autism are enrolled in 199 specialized educational units managed by the Ministry of Education, Sports and Culture. In Imbabura province alone, four specialized institutions serve 212 students.

The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to supporting children and adolescents with autism by promoting specialized education tailored to their needs and fostering an inclusive culture within the educational system.
