The Internal Revenue Service (SRI) has warned the public about fraudulent attempts by individuals who are illegally using the agency’s name and institutional image to deceive taxpayers and unlawfully obtain personal and financial information.
According to SRI, these deceptive practices include requesting confidential data or payments from citizens under false pretenses. The agency emphasized that it “never requests confidential information through any channel nor requires cash payments.” Citizens who suspect fraud can report incidents using the complaint mailboxes available at www.sri.gob.ec or by calling 1700 774 774.
Official notifications from the tax administration are sent only through authorized institutional domains, which are the sole valid channels for such communications, SRI stated.
“The SRI reaffirms its commitment to taxpayer security and urges citizens to stay informed exclusively through its official communication channels,” according to the statement from the agency.
The warning comes as part of efforts to protect taxpayers against scams and ensure that all communications with SRI remain secure and verifiable.
