The Internal Revenue Service (SRI) has introduced changes to simplify the process for priority groups seeking refunds of Value Added Tax (VAT). The goal is to make access to this tax right easier and more efficient.

With the new system, when applying for a VAT refund, users will only see invoices related to essential goods and services intended for personal use. These include purchases such as food, clothing, health, education, and housing materials. Only transactions from establishments verified by SRI will be displayed. This change aims to streamline the selection of receipts, reduce mistakes in the process, and ensure compliance with the Internal Tax Regime Law.

To guarantee fairness and adherence to current regulations, SRI’s system now applies clear criteria when selecting receipts. Invoices that have already received an automatic full VAT refund will not appear in the list. Additionally, only invoices issued with the beneficiary’s identification number and generated by SRI-verified establishments are considered.

“SRI reaffirms its commitment to facilitating the fulfillment of tax rights, promoting transparency, and ensuring that VAT refunds reach those who are truly eligible in a fair and timely manner,” stated the agency.

These adjustments reflect ongoing efforts by SRI to improve transparency and efficiency in tax processes for priority groups.
