The Servicio de Rentas Internas (SRI) announced on April 23 that it is carrying out a national agenda to strengthen tax culture among students in Ecuador. The initiative coincides with the Día de la Cultura Tributaria, celebrated annually on April 27 since its establishment in 2007.

The campaign, running from April 22 to April 29, involves educational activities across basic, middle, and higher education institutions. Students are participating in talks, contests, and learning sessions aimed at encouraging an understanding of tax responsibilities from an early age.

As part of these efforts, SRI organized a special event at Unidad Educativa Fiscal Luis Napoleón Dillón in Quito. More than 300 high school seniors attended the session alongside teachers and institutional authorities. The event featured interactive activities and a tax knowledge contest designed to make learning about taxes engaging for young people.

Alexandra Navarrete, general director of SRI, said that “tax culture is not limited to paying taxes but begins with instilling values such as honesty, responsibility and the awareness that we are all part of the same society.” She also said that fulfilling tax obligations should not be seen only as a rule but as “a way to contribute to collective well-being and help build a fairer and more united country.” Navarrete highlighted the importance of working with the education system “to form citizens who are aware and committed to their country.”

According to SRI officials, these educational initiatives reinforce their commitment to using tax culture as a tool for building greater fairness and solidarity throughout Ecuador.
