Pronaca has received the ISO 50001 certification for its poultry and pig plants at the Valle Hermoso Complex in Santo Domingo, as well as its poultry plant in Bucay. The certification was granted by AENOR and recognizes the company’s implementation of a responsible and efficient energy management system.
The process began in April 2024, when Pronaca started working on an integrated model aimed at optimizing energy consumption, improving productivity, and reducing environmental impact. As a result of these efforts, the company reported notable reductions in specific energy consumption at its facilities. In Santo Domingo, electricity use decreased by up to 15 percent and fossil fuel use by 9 percent. At the Bucay poultry plant, electricity consumption dropped by up to 4.35 percent and fossil fuel use by 13.4 percent.
According to Pronaca, these improvements have directly contributed to lower greenhouse gas emissions and more responsible resource use.
“With this certification we add four industrial operations validated under this international standard, consolidating a corporate model of energy efficiency that drives sustainability and innovation throughout our value chain,” stated the company.
Pronaca also said it is continuing to strengthen its energy management system as part of its Sustainability Strategy 2030. The company plans to pursue new technologies, photovoltaic projects, and further energy improvements with the goal of building a more competitive and sustainable operation for Ecuador.
