President Daniel Noboa Azin inspected the progress of key water, sanitation, and drainage projects in Chone on April 8. The visit was part of a government initiative to improve basic services and infrastructure in Manabí.

The projects aim to enhance living conditions for residents, prevent flooding, and provide reliable access to essential utilities. Improved infrastructure is expected to benefit thousands of families by ensuring safer and more consistent water supply as well as better waste management systems.

During his visit, Noboa was accompanied by Roberto Luque, Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, and Carlos Rivera, manager of the Development Bank of Ecuador. Rivera said: “With this work, the coverage of drinking water and sewerage will be very close to 100%. This is the result of boosting public financing—public banking—following President Noboa’s guidelines.”

The hydrosanitary project in Chone has reached 92% completion. The government allocated USD 13.9 million through the Development Bank for this project, with USD 8.1 million being non-reimbursable funds. The initiative directly benefits over 94,000 people while indirectly impacting another 128,000 residents. According to Rivera: “The total disbursement has been made during this presidential period boosting the economy.”

Local merchants expressed gratitude for these improvements after years dealing with outdated systems that disrupted their businesses. Emma Minaya said: “Thank you for giving hope back to Chone because it was a project that seemed like it would never arrive but thanks to God and the President’s will we are here believing again.”

Another major effort under review was Phase III construction on Chone’s potable water system which is currently at 32% completion. Gerardo Giler from the Ministry explained that this phase involves a USD 24 million investment including new pipelines, upgrades at treatment plants, and expanded distribution networks designed to serve about 131,000 inhabitants over an estimated lifespan of twenty-five years.

Giler said: “Chone will have continuous water service… Currently there are areas where water does not reach because networks have not been built yet; in peri-urban sites it arrives only intermittently… This work is projected to last twenty-five years.”

Officials say these efforts reflect a broader commitment by President Noboa’s administration toward providing safe and sustainable infrastructure for families throughout Chone.
