President Daniel Noboa Azin delivered 30 new homes on March 30 to families in the “Miracielo” housing project in El Oro province. The houses were acquired through the government-backed “Miti-Miti” and “Credicasa” financing initiatives.

The event marks a step forward in the government’s policy to improve access to dignified housing, support local economic activity, and create jobs. Of the homes delivered, 28 were financed through the “Miti-Miti” program, which offers a preferential interest rate of 4.99 percent, while two were acquired with BIESS’s “Credicasa” loans at a rate of 2.99 percent.

“Today ends a period of uncertainty and begins an era of stability for the 30 families who receive the keys to their own home (…). We are making history by providing a real solution to that dream they have held for decades,” said President Noboa during his remarks.

Noboa also noted that his administration is promoting legislation allowing private companies to provide housing for families most in need, enabling those companies to deduct these contributions from income tax. He commented on opposition efforts: “But there are those who want to leave all Ecuadorians without a home and threaten to present it before the Constitutional Court,” he said. With debate on this law expected soon in the National Assembly, Noboa added: “We will see what happens: if they will allow you to have the home you deserve or, as always, oppose it. We know what we are doing is necessary so more families can have their own house and live peacefully.”

Roberto Luque, Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, addressed political tensions surrounding these projects: “This is the result of the most strategic and successful public-private partnership this country has,” Luque said about programs that help transition families from renting into owning their own homes.

Bernardo Cordovez, president of IESS’s board of directors, credited these achievements to President Noboa’s efforts at stabilizing Ecuador’s economy: “This is not just a delivery; it is tranquility, stability and future for families. We will continue working so more Ecuadorians can access dignified housing,” Cordovez said.

During his visit President Noboa reiterated his commitment toward development in El Oro province by highlighting actions such as $18 million provided in credits; nearly 10,000 scholarships awarded; legalization of over 1,000 rural land titles; $17 million invested along Guayaquil–Machala corridor; and $20 million allocated for expanding La Primavera road.

“Aquí está su gobierno que los respalda y aquí estamos con ustedes. Gracias a su confianza estamos sacando juntos hacia adelante a Machala y estamos acabando con una clase política que le hizo tanto mal a los ecuatorianos,” concluded Noboa.
