More than 23,000 students in Zone 8 will benefit from renovated sports courts following a cooperation agreement between the Ministry of Education, Sport and Culture (MINEDEC) and the Guayas Sports Federation (FEDEGUAYAS). The agreement, signed on November 12 at Unidad Educativa Fiscal Luis Alfredo Noboa Icaza in northwest Guayaquil, includes improvements to ten multi-use courts at educational institutions and the provision of equipment for football and basketball.
The partnership is set to directly impact over 23,000 students and 800 physical education teachers. It aims to strengthen comprehensive education and promote sporting values in schools.
At the signing event, attended by Deputy Minister of Sport José David Jiménez, FEDEGUAYAS president Roberto Ibáñez, students, teachers, and parents, Jiménez said: “This is the first of the ten courts that will be improved. This agreement is the first of many to come. In a week we will sign a new agreement so that physical education teachers can receive training under the leadership of Fedenador.”
The educational institutions scheduled for court renovations include Juan Modesto Carbo, Provincia de Cotopaxi, Jaime Roldós Aguilera, Juan Emilio Murillo Landín, Luis Fernando Vívero, Juan Javier Espinoza, Ciudad de Zamora, Durán and Unidad Educativa Comunitaria Intercultural Bilingüe Rumiñahui.
FEDEGUAYAS president Roberto Ibáñez Romero commented: “This inter-institutional agreement seeks to ensure that young people have decent and adequate spaces for sports practice.”
Ruth Scarleth Mantilla Parrales, a student at Unidad Educativa Juan Modesto Carbo Noboa added: “As a student and also as an athlete, football has helped me maintain a healthy balance between studying and physical activity. Having renovated courts will allow me to continue training to become a better athlete.”
The Ministry stated that with this agreement it reaffirms its commitment to advancing public policies that use sport as a tool for social and educational transformation while promoting safe and active spaces for students’ growth.
