The Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport (MIT) announced on Apr. 22 that it invested USD 44.4 million in Manabí during 2025 to improve the province’s road infrastructure, according to its annual management report presented with local authorities and residents.
This investment is part of a broader government plan led by President Daniel Noboa and Minister Roberto Luque, which includes a multi-year budget exceeding USD 30 million for future road projects and initiatives aimed at helping communities affected by the April 2016 earthquake. Planned works include the Calceta market, San Gregorio Memorial Plaza, and phase III of Chone’s hydrosanitary project.
Tony Quiroz, MIT’s district director in Manabí, said that one major achievement was the rehabilitation of the La Entrada–Puerto López–Manta highway. This project received an allocation of USD 22.7 million and covers about 140 kilometers.
Quiroz also said that Manabí has Ecuador’s largest state road network (Red Vial Estatal), which is being strengthened further through new bridge construction in Quimis (Jipijapa canton) and Lodana parish (Santa Ana canton). These bridges are funded under the Solidarity Law and are expected to improve service levels and safety across the network.
The report detailed other emergency rehabilitation efforts across several key routes in Manabí. These included interventions on three strategic roads as well as renting machinery and supplying stone materials to respond quickly to emergencies.
According to MIT officials, these actions aim to boost regional connectivity, make it easier for products from production areas to reach towns, and support economic development throughout Manabí.
