The Azuay District Directorate of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport announced on Apr. 15 that it invested $7.7 million in road infrastructure during 2025.

The announcement highlights the ministry’s focus on maintaining state roads, carrying out construction projects, and generating employment through microenterprises.

Paúl López, district director, said that the most significant project started in 2025 was the construction of the Monay–IESS traffic interchange, which received nearly $4.8 million in its first three months of execution. López also said about $900,000 was used for maintenance work on the Cuenca – Girón – Pasaje road as part of a national conservation program. Four microenterprises were contracted to perform routine tasks on roads including Cuenca – Molleturo – El Empalme, Paute – Guaruamales – Méndez, and Gualaceo – Chordeleg – Sígsig.

In housing matters, López detailed efforts by the former Ministry of Urban Development and Housing before its merger with MIT in July 2025. He reported a total of 155 Public Interest Housing projects and 11 Social Interest Housing projects resulting in 916 affordable homes accessible via mortgage loans.

Additionally, he noted that construction began on 60 houses built on beneficiaries’ own land across several cantons with an investment of $5.5 million from the state.

López concluded by stating that under the Creamos Patrimonio program in 2025, legal status was granted to 351 properties to provide security for families and improve their access to government services.
