The Ministry of Education, Sports and Culture has provided new sports equipment to 70 educational institutions in the canton of Zapotillo. The investment, totaling $6,294, is part of an effort by District 11D09 Zapotillo and Zonal Coordination 7 to support the comprehensive development of children and adolescents.
The José Antonio Campos Educational Unit hosted an event attended by students, teachers, and officials. Participants emphasized the importance of collaboration to promote sports and productive use of free time within the school community.
Favio Villamizar, Zonal Coordinator 7 for the ministry, stated: “Our objective is to strengthen sports and recreation in educational institutions in the canton Zapotillo. After many years we have made this delivery of sports equipment a reality, a historic achievement. We remain committed to our children and youth; throughout Zone 7 we are delivering equipment, technological laboratories, and strengthening education for our students.”
The distributed items include basketballs, soccer balls, chess boards, and athletic cones. These resources aim to enhance sports activities and support motor and cognitive skill development among students.
María Correa, a student at José Antonio Campos Educational Unit, said: “We are very happy and grateful to the Ministry of Education, Sports and Culture for this sports equipment that will help us greatly in our daily activities and keep us healthy through sport.”
During the event, an inter-institutional cooperation agreement was signed between Zonal Coordination 7 of the Ministry of Education, Sports and Culture; the municipal government (GAD) of Zapotillo; and the parish government (GAD) of Limones. The goal is to improve physical infrastructure at the Coliseo Deportivo Cultural located in El Mango neighborhood in Limones parish.
Authorities noted: “With this agreement’s signing it becomes easier to carry out joint activities related to sports, recreation, appropriate use of free time as well as school projects involving teachers, students, parents and citizens.”
This project involves an investment of $16,821.84. It will directly benefit 79 residents from 22 families—about 5.2% of Limones parish population—and is expected to have a positive indirect impact on all 1,685 inhabitants.
The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening school sports programs, improving educational infrastructure and creating safe spaces for children’s holistic development across Ecuador.
