The Ministry of Telecommunications and Information Society has received recognition for its flagship project, Free Digital Points (Puntos Digitales Gratuitos, PDG), in the Exemplary Practices Ecuador 2025 competition organized by the Corporation Leaders for Governance.

The initiative was awarded in the Digital Transformation category. According to the ministry, it stood out among projects that encourage innovation, equitable access to technology, and community development across the country.

Free Digital Points are spaces where citizens can access free internet and receive training on more than 400 topics related to Information and Communication Technologies (ICT).

There are currently 978 PDG locations nationwide. Between November 23, 2023, and November 2025, these centers have received over 9.7 million visits and provided training to more than half a million people.

“This recognition makes visible the government’s work in bringing technology closer to remote areas with limited internet access, thereby reducing the digital divide,” said the ministry.
