The Ministry of Public Health has distributed 249 radiant heat cribs to hospitals across the country, aiming to improve neonatal care for newborns, especially those born prematurely or with health complications. This initiative is part of a partnership with the Pan American Health Organization (OPS).
Vice President María José Pinto delivered some of these radiant heat cribs to Hospital Guasmo Sur in Guayaquil. During the event, she stated, “Caring for our newborns is caring for early childhood: it is protecting the present and defending the future of the New Ecuador.”
The distribution of these cribs covers several regions, including Pichincha, Esmeraldas, Imbabura, Santa Elena, Manabí, Los Ríos, and hospitals classified as general, basic, and pediatric.
Andrea Suárez, a mother whose twins were born at 30 weeks at Hospital Guasmo Sur, said: “I am grateful to God and to the doctors at this hospital; my twins were born at 30 weeks and thanks to these devices they are well cared for. I see them progress every day.”
María Dávila, head of Neonatal Intensive Care Therapy at Hospital Guasmo Sur, emphasized the importance of having this equipment. “Having adequate technology for managing extremely premature infants in Hospital Guasmo Sur is essential. These devices are key tools that allow us to provide specialized care to critically ill newborns.”
According to officials from the Ministry of Public Health, this equipment helps maintain proper temperature for newborns and reduces risks during medical procedures.
