The Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport (MIT) presented its annual accountability report for the year 2025 in Imbabura on Apr. 8, as required by the Constitution of Ecuador and the Law of the Council for Citizen Participation and Social Control. The event took place at the facilities of ECU 911 Integrated Security Service.
Jordy Vásquez, district director of MIT in Imbabura, said that more than $4.3 million was invested in road works aimed at improving connectivity and supporting productive development across the province. Among these projects, he highlighted the opening and rectification of the Saguangal – Las Golondrinas road, which spans 64.2 kilometers and includes construction of ten vehicle bridges and a pedestrian crossing. This project created about 180 jobs and benefited approximately one million residents from both Imbabura and Esmeraldas provinces with an investment exceeding $2.5 million during 2025.
Vásquez also reported on maintenance efforts covering over 113 kilometers along the State Road Network through routine work contracts valued at more than $289,000. These activities were carried out by three micro-enterprises dedicated to road conservation, resulting in employment opportunities for forty-seven people while benefiting over 189,000 citizens.
In addition to infrastructure projects, Vásquez mentioned timely responses to road emergencies designed to ensure user safety on major provincial routes.
Social programs were also addressed during the event. The “Creamos Patrimonio” program enabled land regularization for one hundred ten families across Otavalo, Ibarra, Cotacachi, and Urcuquí cantons. The ministry reconstructed fully subsidized homes worth $272,000 for thirty-seven families in Ibarra, Pimampiro, and Urcuquí; it also invested over $374,000 building new houses benefiting twenty families in several cantons including Antonio Ante.
Support was provided to more than fifty-five social organizations through legal process guidance aimed at promoting formalization efforts among citizen groups.
At the close of proceedings Juan Sebastián Echeverría—subsecretary zonal one—spoke on behalf of Minister Roberto Luque: “He reiterated commitment from National Government towards continued execution of works fostering territorial development while improving quality-of-life standards.”
Local authorities such as Governor Jorge Ortiz attended alongside community members.
