The Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport announced on March 30 the start of conservation work on the Portoviejo–Montecristi road in Manabí province. The project covers a stretch from the Bellavista bridge to the intersection with Montecristi–La Cadena road, part of the E-30 state corridor, spanning 21 kilometers. The investment for this project is USD 1.6 million, including tax.
The work aims to improve driving conditions and maintain infrastructure along this important route. The intervention includes resurfacing damaged sections with asphalt concrete, sealing surface cracks, minor asphalt patching, cleaning and channeling drainage systems, maintaining drainage infrastructure, and installing both horizontal and vertical signage.
Gerardo Giler, Subsecretary for Zone 4 at the ministry, said these actions are part of ongoing maintenance promoted by the national government to ensure operability of Ecuador’s State Road Network. “Estas acciones forman parte del mantenimiento que impulsa el Gobierno Nacional para garantizar la operatividad de la Red Vial Estatal y optimizar las condiciones de circulación en corredores estratégicos del país,” Giler said.
This section connects Portoviejo with Montecristi and links traffic toward cities such as Manta and Jipijapa as well as providing access to Guayas province. According to ministry information, more than 400,000 users regularly travel this route.
The contract was signed with Consorcio Mantenimiento Vial and has an execution period of sixty days. The ministry stated that through this intervention “el Gobierno del Nuevo Ecuador continúa ejecutando acciones concretas para mantener en óptimas condiciones la infraestructura vial, sostener la movilidad productiva y atender de manera oportuna las necesidades del territorio.”
