The Ministry of Education, through its Zonal Coordination 7 for Education, Sports and Culture, has endorsed the twelfth edition of BIOLEAGE 2026: Binational Olympiad of Academic Excellence Gerardina. The event is organized by Unidad Educativa Particular San Gerardo and will take place on May 21 and 22, 2026.

BIOLEAGE 2026 aims to strengthen academic excellence and regional integration. The city of Loja will host students from early education to high school in 15 academic events focused on critical thinking and research.

Johanna Sánchez, director of the Loja District for Education, emphasized the importance of institutional support for such initiatives. “As Ministry of Education and representatives in the canton Loja and in Zonal 7, with the support of the Zonal Coordinator, we endorse and support these spaces, as they allow our children and young people to participate actively and strengthen a closer relationship with other countries,” said Sánchez.

The event continues its international tradition by inviting delegations not only from Ecuador but also from neighboring regions. Violeta Pilco, principal at Unidad Educativa San Gerardo, stated that the institution “welcomes a large number of students from southern Ecuador and northern Peru; we have even received delegations from Cuba, which ensures shared education.”

José Zapata López, consul of Peru in Loja, highlighted the significance of friendship between both nations: “I want to thank you for inviting Peruvian students who have the opportunity to come get to know their neighboring country,” he said.

The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to promoting learning experiences that enhance cognitive and socioemotional skills among students in diverse contexts.
