The Ministry of Education, Sports and Culture has supplied construction materials worth USD 11,333 to improve the infrastructure of 16 public schools in the Arenillas – Huaquillas – Las Lajas district. The initiative aims to provide safer and more suitable learning environments for students in El Oro province.

The materials delivered include 270 bags of cement and 31 units of welded mesh. These supplies will be used for projects such as building a sports field at Unidad Educativa “Provincia de Tungurahua,” in partnership with the local government of El Paraíso parish.

Lissbeth Aponte, an educational leader at Unidad Educativa “Huaquillas,” said: “We appreciate this effort, which will allow us to upgrade the Chemistry laboratory and, most importantly, improve the sewage system, a priority project for our school.”

Gina Coronel, director of Unidad Educativa “11 de Noviembre,” stated: “This contribution is vital for facing the rainy season. We will prevent water leaks in classrooms, ensuring that our students receive lessons in a dry and safe environment.”

Fernando Carrión, a student who benefits from these improvements, expressed: “We are very grateful. With these materials we will build the educational roof, which will protect us from rain and allow us to study more comfortably and safely.”

Favio Villamizar, Zonal Coordinator 7 for Education, noted that these actions are part of a broader improvement plan: “Our priority is to strengthen teaching spaces. Every technical improvement directly results in a better quality of life and stronger learning for students throughout Zone 7.”

According to the Ministry’s announcement, these efforts are part of ongoing government investment aimed at supporting children and youth by improving school infrastructure as a foundation for academic development.
