More than 22,000 students from Guayaquil, Durán, and Samborondón will participate in the “Vacacional: Disfruta, Juega y Aprende” program after the conclusion of the 2025–2026 academic year for the Costa–Galápagos region. The Ministry of Education, Sports and Culture (MINEDEC) launched this initiative as part of its efforts to create safe spaces during school recess for personal growth, positive social interaction, and risk prevention.

The program includes sports, arts, cultural activities, and educational workshops. These are delivered with an inclusive approach and socio-emotional support to foster resilience and active citizenship among students. A total of 598 teachers will conduct workshops throughout March 2026 at various educational institutions in the region.

Minister Gilda Alcívar García stated during the opening ceremony: “The program is not only a recreational offer but also a vision of comprehensive education where learning also happens through play, art and teamwork.” She officially marked the start of activities with a symbolic gesture at the event.

The inaugural event featured live demonstrations from different areas within the program. Students showcased basketball as part of sports activities designed to strengthen teamwork skills. Technical training included practical presentations in electricity to emphasize hands-on learning and responsibility. There were also inclusive community workshops focusing on psychosocial risk prevention, occupational health, and speech therapy for those who need it. Dance performances highlighted how artistic expression can help build confidence in safe environments.

Roxana Bravo, a participating parent, said: “I am grateful for this initiative because it gives families peace of mind knowing their children have safe spaces where they can learn, grow and share positive experiences during their vacations.”

With this initiative, MINEDEC reiterated its commitment to children and youth by promoting policies centered on student well-being at both educational and social levels.
