The Ministry of Education in Ecuador has introduced the Practical Guide for Socioemotional Support to teachers from various educational institutions in Quito. The event took place at Unidad Educativa Isabel Robalino, located in the southern part of the city.
The session was attended by Emilio Félix, Undersecretary for Educational Innovation and Integral Development, and María José Moyano, Undersecretary of Education, Sports, and Culture of Quito. They joined 100 school authorities, teachers, and DECE professionals during the activity.
During his remarks, Emilio Félix emphasized the essential role teachers play in socioemotional support. He stated the importance of training and providing learning spaces that give educators tools to “identify situations, interpret signals, understand reactions, and detect changes in students.”
Mariana Orbe, an official from Unidad Educativa Dr. Ricardo Cornejo Rosales, commented on the value of these sessions: “This type of socialization represents a valuable opportunity to strengthen capacities and knowledge, which will allow me to lead the institution with effective tools to guide students, families, teachers, and authorities.”
Socioemotional support for teachers is seen as impacting both their personal and professional development. It is also considered a key strategy for strengthening school coexistence and promoting overall well-being within educational settings.
Nationally, 37 in-person workshops have been held so far with participation from 1,531 teachers, authorities, and DECE professionals across 287 educational institutions. These workshops cover topics such as phases of socioemotional support, strategies for managing emotions, development of socioemotional skills, and prevention of psychosocial risks.
The Ministry has stated that prioritizing socioemotional support for teachers recognizes them not only as mediators of academic learning but also as key actors in the comprehensive education of children and adolescents.
