More than $100,000 has been invested in a comprehensive infrastructure project at the “Vicente León Picón” public school in Ricaurte parish. The Ministry of Education, Sport and Culture led this initiative, which is expected to benefit 310 students by improving both safety and learning conditions.
For about 15 years, the school faced structural issues with its rear perimeter wall, posing a continuous risk to the community. The Ministry included the repair in its budget for the 2024–2025 academic year. The work involved rebuilding the wall, upgrading restroom facilities, repairing roofs and rainwater channels, and making improvements to the teachers’ lounge, library, and classroom back areas.
Additionally, the school has launched the “Aula Viva” educational project. This program converts a green area of around 150 square meters into an interdisciplinary learning space. It aims to strengthen reading comprehension, logical-mathematical thinking, and encourages active and inclusive teaching methods in real-life contexts. Teachers, students, and families are participating in this project through teacher training sessions, planning for pedagogical use of the space, and creating a short documentary to showcase its impact on educational practices.
At the formal handover of the completed works, Education Coordinator Marcela Villavicencio Jara said: “These actions reaffirm the State’s commitment to education by creating dignified, safe and suitable spaces for learning.”
The intervention reflects planned management efforts by the Ministry of Education, Sport and Culture focused on strengthening educational infrastructure and fulfilling public policies that guarantee quality public education that is inclusive and relevant.
