The Ministry of Education, Sport and Culture organized a training workshop in Pedernales for DECE professionals and inspectors from 23 educational institutions in the Jama and Pedernales district. The workshop, titled “Leadership, Restorative Practices, Assertive Communication and Resolution of School Conflicts,” aimed to enhance socio-emotional and technical skills among institutional teams. The goal was to provide tools that help build respectful, safe, and violence-free educational environments.
According to Maol Castillo Robles, a DECE professional in Jama and Pedernales, the workshop “allowed us to provide transformative tools and experiences to DECE professionals and inspectors, strengthening the focus on restorative practices and conflict resolution. This type of training enables understanding methods that promote dialogue, active listening, and repair of harm, prioritizing harmonious coexistence and strengthening relationships within the educational community.”
Julady Vargas Loor, director of District 13D10 – Jama, Pedernales, highlighted the institutional collaboration that made the workshop possible. She said it was facilitated by Wellington Chávez from the Department of Student Counseling. Vargas Loor stated: “These training spaces strengthen the technical capacities of educational staff by providing them with key tools for timely intervention, effective mediation, and prevention of violent situations in educational institutions.”
Tyrone Lord, an inspector at Unidad Educativa Pedro Agustín López Ramos de Pedernales who participated in the workshop, commented: “The workshop created a dynamic and participatory space that allowed for sharing real experiences from the educational context. It also provided clear knowledge about leadership and assertive approaches to school problems, which helps strengthen educational communities committed to healthy, safe environments free from conflicts.”
The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to ongoing training processes that support peaceful coexistence, violence prevention, and a quality education for children and adolescents.
