The Ministry of Education, Sports and Culture has completed renovation and maintenance projects in schools located in the Santa Ana and Portoviejo districts. These efforts are aimed at providing safer and more functional environments for children and adolescents in these areas.

At the Niño Jesús de Praga Specialized Education Unit in Santa Ana, corrective and preventive maintenance was carried out with an investment of $60,685. The work benefits 38 students. Improvements included repairs to plumbing and electrical systems, installation of new classroom roofs, construction of perimeter fencing, addition of rainwater gutters, pavement for perimeter sidewalks, comprehensive maintenance for eight classrooms, and upgrades to two restroom facilities.

María Moreira, a parent from the school community, said: “Estas obras significan tranquilidad para nosotros como padres. Nuestros hijos ahora cuentan con espacios más seguros y adecuados para su aprendizaje.” (“These works mean peace of mind for us as parents. Our children now have safer and more suitable spaces for their learning.”)

In Portoviejo, José de Vasconcellos Basic Education School received a full maintenance upgrade with an investment totaling $136,860. This project benefits 177 students from the Francisco Pacheco parish. Work included building two new classrooms and a sanitary facility block, creating perimeter walkways, installing playground equipment, maintaining existing classrooms and bathrooms, constructing a front fence, as well as improving plumbing and electrical systems.

Brianna Cando represented the student body by stating: “Ahora tenemos aulas más bonitas y espacios donde podemos aprender mejor. Gracias por pensar en nosotros y en nuestro futuro.” (“Now we have nicer classrooms and spaces where we can learn better. Thank you for thinking about us and our future.”)

Maximiliano Núñez Tomaselli, Zonal 4 Education Coordinator, emphasized that these projects demonstrate the national government’s commitment to supporting educational communities: “Cada intervención representa una puerta abierta hacia mejores oportunidades. Cuando fortalecemos los espacios de aprendizaje, cuidamos el presente y proyectamos el futuro de nuestros estudiantes.” (“Each intervention represents an open door to better opportunities. When we strengthen learning spaces, we care for our students’ present while projecting their future.”)

The Ministry reiterated its intention to continue working on initiatives that ensure safe and quality educational environments throughout Zone 4.
