Minister of Telecommunications and the Information Society, Roberto Kury, outlined on March 20 a series of initiatives aimed at improving digital connectivity and encouraging private investment in the telecommunications sector during a media tour in the province of Santa Elena.
Kury’s agenda included interviews with several local media outlets, where he discussed recent progress such as the inauguration of three new Free Digital Points (Puntos Digitales Gratuitos) in the communities of San Antonio, Barcelona de Manglaralto, and Manantial de Guangala. These centers are designed to promote digital inclusion by providing internet access and training in technological tools to support social and economic development.
“In the PDG we promote digital inclusion, internet access, and training in technological tools, contributing to the social and economic development of citizens,” Kury said during his appearances on Amor TV, Radio Amor, Genial Radio, Playera Radio, SER Radio, and La Voz de la Península Radio.
The minister said these efforts are part of a broader government policy to strengthen connectivity across Ecuador. The aim is to reduce the digital divide and ensure equitable access to technology for all citizens, particularly those living in rural areas or historically underserved communities.
Kury also addressed private sector involvement in telecommunications. He highlighted investments from Conecel S.A., which he said demonstrate confidence in the government’s direction under “Nuevo Ecuador.” According to Kury, this partnership is key for expanding coverage, improving service quality, and creating more opportunities for residents.
The Ministry of Telecommunications and the Information Society continues its commitment to advancing Ecuador’s digital transformation by bringing technology closer to more people throughout the country.
