Gilda Alcívar García, Minister of Education, Sport and Culture, carried out a series of activities in Azuay province on March 19 aimed at strengthening the education system, supporting artistic talent, and promoting sports among children and youth.
The visit included the presentation of appointments to teachers in Zone 6 who were winners of the Merit and Opposition Contest for General Baccalaureate. Alcívar García said that educators play a fundamental role in shaping new generations and building a better country.
During her agenda, Alcívar García met with the rectors of the University of Cuenca and the University of Azuay to discuss ways to strengthen inter-institutional cooperation and promote joint initiatives for higher education quality. She also attended a graduation ceremony for more than 200 students from the National Conservatory “José María Rodríguez,” where she recognized their dedication in music and dance. She said that art is an important tool for social transformation and highlighted the need to continue supporting Ecuadorian artistic talent.
In sports, Alcívar García joined Vice Minister Roberto Ibáñez at the Noche de Gala del Deporte Azuayo – XXXVIII Festival de Campeones event, which honored outstanding athletes from the province. The event also announced a 25 percent increase in investment for sports as part of the national government’s commitment to developing high-performance athletics and formative sport.
Alcívar García visited with 34 children from Monte Sinaí Intercultural Bilingual Community Education Center at Pumapungo Museum’s Ludobiblioteca to encourage reading, creativity, and early learning. She also participated in “Pinta tu Cancha” at Escuela de Educación Básica 12 de Abril alongside local authorities to promote sports activities, discipline, teamwork, and improvements to educational spaces for children’s physical activity.
According to Alcívar García’s ministry, these actions reaffirm the government’s commitment to comprehensive education that integrates knowledge, art, and sport as key elements for Ecuador’s social and human development.
