Gilda Alcívar García, Minister of Education, Sport and Culture, visited Manabí on April 9 to advance efforts in strengthening educational and cultural spaces as well as promoting dialogue with academic institutions.
The visit is significant as it highlights ongoing governmental efforts to improve access to quality education and foster cultural development. The agenda included activities aimed at consolidating public higher education and supporting creative learning environments for young people.
Alcívar García began her day by touring the training workshops at Museo Manta, where she interacted with children, youth, and facilitators in the library areas. She observed a chess workshop designed to enhance logical thinking and decision-making skills, along with painting and artistic creation workshops that encourage creativity and social interaction. These activities are part of a continuous program that positions the museum as an active center for learning and cultural growth.
In Portoviejo, Alcívar García attended the inauguration of the new Postgraduate Faculty building at Universidad Técnica de Manabí alongside President Daniel Noboa Azín. The new facility is expected to benefit more than 45,000 people by expanding opportunities for advanced study and research relevant to national economic development. Additional projects exceeding $10 million are underway at the university campus.
Following this event, Alcívar García met with Santiago Hernández, rector of Universidad Técnica de Manabí, and Marcos Zambrano from Universidad Laica Eloy Alfaro de Manabí. They discussed strategies for academic improvement and collaborative work in higher education.
“We are convinced that investing in education means betting on the country’s development. This type of project strengthens human talent, reduces gaps, and creates real opportunities for future generations,” said Alcívar García during her remarks about government commitment to educational infrastructure.
The minister concluded her visit by speaking with local media about institutional progress across educational, sports, and cultural sectors. She emphasized the importance of public policies supporting inclusive quality education throughout all levels.
