Minister of Education, Sport and Culture Gilda Alcívar García visited Galápagos on March 26 to advance efforts for sustainable education, practical student training, and strategic partnerships with local institutions.
The visit focused on recognizing teachers who completed training in a curriculum adapted for sustainability. This initiative was made possible through an agreement between the Ministry and Fundación Conservando Galápagos. Alcívar García highlighted the importance of integrating environmental care into education.
At the Instituto Superior Tecnológico Galápagos (ISTGAL), Alcívar García took part in a business meeting where the dual-education model was discussed. This model is used in five academic programs at ISTGAL and aims to strengthen students’ practical skills while improving their chances of employment after graduation.
As part of her agenda, Alcívar García also met with ISTGAL rector Tito Gavilanes and Pablo Kerblat-Bonnet, director of the Charles Darwin Foundation. The meetings were held to reinforce cooperation in research, promote sustainable education, and explore future international study opportunities for students from the islands.
The Ministry said these actions demonstrate its ongoing commitment to providing quality education that supports sustainability, innovation, and increased development opportunities for young people in Galápagos.
