Gilda Alcívar García, Minister of Education, Sport and Culture, visited El Oro province on March 17 to support families affected by heavy rains and to check on educational infrastructure projects in the area.
The visit included a stop in Salvias parish, Zaruma canton, where 30 students and their families were impacted by recent intense rainfall. During her time there, Alcívar García delivered humanitarian aid and offered words of encouragement to the local education community.
“I want you to know that the National Government is with you. We are that helping hand accompanying you in these difficult times. From different State institutions we work together to overcome the effects of winter,” Alcívar García said.
Professionals from the Department of Student Counseling (DECE) provided emotional support activities for students and their families through playful dynamics aimed at promoting psychosocial assistance. The visit concluded with the distribution of food kits and toys for children.
“From the Ministry we provide comprehensive support that our students need. Thank you for your strength and resilience; know that you are not alone and together we will overcome these challenges,” Alcívar García added.
As part of her agenda, she also toured Jorge Enrique Chávez Celi Educational Unit in Jumón parish, Santa Rosa canton. The government invested $89,000 there for a new classroom, sanitary facilities, and playground equipment. This project will benefit 316 students and is completed, awaiting its inauguration at the start of the 2026–2027 Costa–Galápagos school year on May 4.
Alcívar García said these efforts are part of national actions to ensure safe and functional learning spaces for students across Ecuador.
With these initiatives, the government reaffirms its commitment to strengthening educational infrastructure and improving conditions for children and youth throughout the country.
