The Unidad Educativa Fiscomisional “Mater Dei” in Loja recently organized an activity called “Designing My Ecological Footprint.” The event aimed to encourage students to respect and care for the environment by fostering responsibility for their ecological impact.

This initiative is part of the Plan Natura: Education, Innovation and Sustainability. The plan includes the national program “Recreo Verde: My Footprint for Climate Change,” which is promoted by the Ministry of Education, Sports and Culture. The program seeks to develop comprehensive education that incorporates both ecological and human values, encouraging students to reflect on how daily actions affect the planet.

During the activity, students created footprints using recycled materials such as cardboard, paper, dried leaves, and reusable fabrics. Each footprint featured a positive action for the environment, its consequence, and a proposed sustainable solution.

Claudia Ordóñez, a teacher at Mater Dei, stated: “We want children and young people to understand that every action counts and that change begins with oneself. They can be agents of transformation from school and at home.”

Students expressed personal commitments to environmental care. They highlighted actions such as conserving water, recycling, and planting trees as small steps that can yield significant results.

The Ministry of Education, Sports and Culture reiterated its dedication to responsible education focused on solidarity and sustainable development. It emphasized its goal of promoting lasting ecological awareness among students.
