Marathon Sports released a review on Apr. 8 of the New Balance 1080 v15, highlighting significant updates including the introduction of Infinion foam in place of Fresh Foam. The shoe maintains its high-stack, soft design and is positioned as a high-cushion neutral daily trainer for runners.
The review matters to both experienced and beginner runners because it details technological advancements that affect comfort, durability, and performance—key considerations when selecting running shoes.
According to Marathon Sports’ team, the new Infinion midsole offers a blend of softness and energy return not found in previous versions. The review states that “the midsole cushioning has more energy return than ever before, so you can enjoy an unparalleled blend of softness and bounce with every step.” Additionally, the redesigned perforated mesh upper is said to improve breathability while reducing weight.
The team tested the shoes across various runs and terrains. They noted that despite increased stack height, the shoe feels lighter than earlier models. However, they also observed that while suitable for long runs due to its plush cushioning and mild rocker profile, it may feel too soft for speed workouts or race days.
Other features include a strategically designed rubber outsole aimed at improving durability without adding extra stiffness or weight. The price point is $169.95 for both men’s and women’s versions.
In comparison with other models like the New Balance FuelCell Rebel v5 or Asics Gel-Nimbus 28, Marathon Sports suggests that athletes seeking versatility might consider alternatives but acknowledges the continued appeal of the 1080 series for those prioritizing comfort during longer distances.
The review concludes by encouraging runners to try out the updated model themselves: “The best way to decide if the 1080 v15 should be your next running shoe is to test the update out for yourself.”
