Marathon Sports released a review on Apr. 9 of the latest Brooks Glycerin 23 running shoe, highlighting its updates and performance compared to previous versions. The review examines changes in comfort, construction, and suitability for various types of runs.
The Brooks Glycerin series has been a staple for runners seeking high-cushion shoes. With each new release, loyal customers look for improvements and differences from prior models. The Marathon Sports review team tested the Glycerin 23 against the earlier Glycerin 22 model to evaluate its features and performance.
According to the review, the Glycerin 23 maintains its reputation for comfort with plush dual-cell DNA Tuned foam in the midsole and an upper made from triple jacquard warp knit material that includes added cushioning around the heel collar and tongue. The updated model features an increased stack height—now at 38 mm in the heel and 30 mm in the forefoot—and a moderate drop of eight millimeters. This adjustment aims to provide both heel strikers and mid-foot strikers with a more comfortable ride.
Testers noted that while previous versions had higher drops (10-12 mm), this change creates a more natural foot position during runs. They also found that extra padding improved step-in comfort but resulted in less breathability, which could be an issue during warmer weather months. At weights of approximately 10.6 ounces for men’s sizes and 9.5 ounces for women’s sizes, reviewers observed that this version is slightly heavier than its predecessor.
The review points out pros such as stability from a wide platform, enhanced durability due to full-coverage rubber outsoles, and availability in both standard and wide widths for better fit options. However, cons include increased weight compared to other daily trainers on the market as well as warmth caused by additional upper padding.
In comparison with similar shoes like Saucony Triumph 23—which offers even higher cushioning but less versatility—the Glycerin stands out as a dependable option suitable for long runs or uptempo workouts alike. Marathon Sports recommends trying different models before making a purchase decision but concludes that “if you’re looking for a durable and dependable shoe that can do it all,” the Brooks Glycerin remains worthy of consideration.
