Construction has begun on a new Type C Health Center in Ibarra, Ecuador, following collaboration between the National Government through the Ministerio de Salud Pública and the Ibarra Municipality. The project involves an investment of $4.4 million from the municipality and an annual contribution of $3.6 million from the national government.
The health center aims to improve healthcare services for more than 220,000 residents in Ibarra and users from northern regions of the country. Its location is intended to optimize patient flow across different levels of care provided by the Ministry of Public Health.
María Fernanda Terán, regional coordinator for Zone 1 of Health, stated, “Today begins the construction of a project that represents not only physical growth in our health network but also a shared commitment to work for the well-being and comprehensive development of the population. Our new Type C Health Center will have modern infrastructure and be equipped with state-of-the-art technology and designed under quality standards.”
She added that this achievement results from joint efforts: “an effort made possible thanks to effective and ongoing coordination between the Ministry of Public Health and local authorities whose determined support has been fundamental in making this project a reality.”
Magdalena Guerrero, a beneficiary, said she had witnessed both progress and needs in her city. “Some time ago, the mayor made a promise; he told us that this canton would have a modern Type C health center—dignified, capable of caring for our children, grandchildren, and those of us in our golden years. Many held onto that promise with hope, and today, seeing the first stone laid, I can say with emotion that his promise has been fulfilled.”
The Ministry of Public Health will continue its efforts to ensure quality care and provide accessible facilities throughout Ecuador.
