Children and adolescents in the Educational Hospital Program at the IESS “Manuel Ignacio Monteros” General Hospital in Loja took part in a Christmas celebration focused on emotional well-being and learning. The event included theater performances, Christmas carols, and recreational games with festive characters.
Various partner organizations contributed to the occasion by providing gifts, aiming to bring happiness and hope to children staying at the hospital.
Johanna Sánchez, district director of Education for Loja, emphasized inter-institutional collaboration: “It is an honor that the Manuel Ignacio Monteros Hospital hosts this service from the Ministry of Education, Sport and Culture. Our goal is to accompany children and adolescents so that education does not stop, guaranteeing their right to learn under any circumstances.”
The National Model for Management and Educational Attention in Hospitals and Homes aims to ensure students undergoing illness or long-term medical treatment can access, remain in, and complete their education. Personalized support is provided so health issues do not interrupt teaching and learning.
Claudia Cuenca, a teacher in the program, stated: “We thank those who make this gathering possible; it is not just a celebration but also a show of solidarity and commitment as professionals and as human beings toward our children.”
Irene Ortiz, mother of one participant, shared her appreciation: “More than the value of a gift, it is this gesture of love that fills our hearts. Seeing a smile on our children’s faces is most important for us. My infinite recognition goes to doctors, nurses, and teachers for their patience and dedication in such special situations.”
Collaboration among the Ministry of Education, Sport and Culture, health institutions, and the community demonstrates how joint efforts help create adaptable educational environments where students can continue developing despite challenges.
