The Hospital General Docente Ambato has reported 45 successful surgeries following the introduction of two advanced ‘C-arm’ X-ray machines. The equipment, delivered by the Government under President Noboa, is intended to improve surgical response times and patient safety.
This upgrade is part of a national investment exceeding $230,000, coordinated through the Ministry of Public Health (MSP) and led by Vice President María José Pinto. The purchase was made in partnership with the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (OPS/OMS), aiming to strengthen surgical care for residents in both the canton and province of Tungurahua.
The C-arm machines are now central to the hospital’s operating rooms. Their mobile design and real-time imaging capabilities allow medical staff to view internal structures clearly during procedures without interruption. These devices enable minimally invasive surgeries across several specialties, including traumatology, orthopedics, urology, cardiology, and general surgery. They also help reduce time spent in surgery and lower complication risks.
“Avanzamos con pasos sólidos para una salud equitativa, segura y eficiente que responde a la necesidad de los ecuatorianos,” said William Salazar, manager of the hospital regarding the 45 surgeries performed with this technology. He added: “no solo innovamos tecnológicamente, sino que elevamos nuestra capacidad para salvar vidas de forma eficiente.”
Patients have noted positive outcomes from these advancements. María Llerena, who underwent one of the first surgeries using the new equipment, said: “Me siento tranquila y confiada al saber que fui atendida con equipos nuevos y modernos. Mi cirugía salió muy bien y ahora espero recuperarme pronto.”
The hospital states that these improvements reinforce its commitment to Ecuador’s Integrated Public Health Network by providing safe care supported by modern technology.
