More than 32,000 students in Ecuador will continue their education in 2025 despite facing health challenges, according to an announcement from the Ministry of Education, Sport and Culture. Through the Hospital and Home Educational Service, 32,676 students with medical conditions have received personalized instruction designed to prevent any interruption to their schooling.
On Tuesday, Vice Minister of Educational Management Juan Carlos Rodríguez and Quito’s Subsecretary of Education María José Moyano visited the Hospital Classroom at Baca Ortiz Pediatric Hospital. From January to November 2025, this facility recorded 3,183 student attendances managed by a team of seven specialized teachers.
“The Hospital Classrooms are a key tool for closing gaps. They ensure that inclusion is not just a concept but a real axis that allows students to develop their potential regardless of circumstances,” said Vice Minister Rodríguez.
The program operates nationwide using flexible and playful teaching methods. Program teacher Graciela Guerrero stated: “We show that education does not stop; we provide a space where students acquire knowledge while finding relief for their medical situation.”
Currently, there are 98 operational hospital classrooms across Ecuador. The initiative includes continuous psycho-pedagogical support through District Units for Inclusion Support (UDAI) and coordination with both the Public Health Network and Complementary Network to adapt learning environments.
The government led by President Daniel Noboa Azín affirms its intention to ensure permanent, equitable, and humane access to education for all students in the country.
