Marathon Sports released a review on Apr. 15 evaluating the Hoka Mach 7, the latest iteration in Hoka’s line of lightweight trainers. The review details the shoe’s features, changes from previous models, and its suitability for different types of runners.
The Hoka Mach series is known for offering an alternative to the brand’s typical plush-cushioned shoes by focusing on speed and versatility. According to Marathon Sports, “the Mach has grown to be a top choice for both speedy runs and everyday miles.” The review notes that with the seventh version, Hoka kept most aspects unchanged but made minor tweaks such as refining the upper mesh design for improved breathability.
Key specifications highlighted include a stack height of 37/32 mm (men) or 35/30 mm (women), a weight of just over eight ounces for men’s sizes, and use of supercritical EVA foam in the midsole designed to provide energy return without excessive softness. The updated outsole now combines sticky rubber at the forefoot with durabrasion rubber at the heel to enhance grip and durability.
The Marathon Sports team tested the Mach 7 across various workouts. They found it performed well during speed sessions thanks to its responsive cushioning while also providing enough comfort for longer distances. However, they noted that “the upper fits snug and narrow,” suggesting some runners may need to size up or consider wide options.
In comparison with other trainers like New Balance FuelCell Rebel v5 or Asics Novablast 5, reviewers said each model offers different levels of softness or fit preferences but found that “the Mach is up for the task” as an all-purpose trainer.
Concluding their assessment, Marathon Sports said their goal is to help runners find suitable footwear through detailed testing: “We were impressed with the Mach 7’s consistency and versatility.” They encouraged interested customers to try out shoes in person before making a decision.
