Marathon Sports released a detailed review of the Hoka Gaviota 6 on Apr. 7, outlining key features and performance updates in the latest iteration of the stability running shoe.
The Hoka Gaviota line has built a reputation among runners seeking high levels of support and comfort. The sixth version aims to continue this trend with new design elements focused on both stability and cushioning for daily trainers.
According to Marathon Sports, the Gaviota 6 features a compression-molded EVA foam midsole with a stack height of 39/33 mm for men’s shoes and 38/32 mm for women’s. The shoe is designed to deliver ample padding while maintaining balance underfoot, which Marathon Sports said avoids an overly soft or unstable feel during runs. The review team highlighted Hoka’s proprietary foam as providing “a smooth and balanced ride that keeps your feet and legs feeling fresh without giving you the feeling of sinking into the shoe.”
A notable update is Hoka’s enhanced H-Frame technology—a symmetrical structure embedded in the midsole—which offers targeted support along both sides of the foot. This system is intended to prevent overpronation without making the shoe overly rigid, allowing neutral runners as well as those needing stability to benefit from its guidance mechanism.
Other features include an engineered mesh upper for breathability, extra padding around the heel and tongue, an internal ghillie lacing system for customized fit, reflective detailing, and an abrasion-resistant rubber outsole designed for durability. Marathon Sports noted that while priced at $179.95—higher than some competitors—the durability provided by these materials may justify the cost over time.
In road testing across various surfaces, reviewers found improvements such as reduced weight compared to previous versions due to a redesigned midsole. They also observed that while supportive features made it less suitable for speed workouts or those preferring very soft cushioning, it excelled in comfort during long runs or extended periods on foot.
The review concluded that “the best way to decide if the Gaviota 6 is right for you is to swing by your local Marathon Sports and try our in-depth fit process.”
As more brands focus on balancing comfort with corrective support technologies like those seen in recent Hoka models, options continue expanding for runners seeking tailored footwear solutions.
