A health brigade from the Yunganza Health Center provided comprehensive medical care to residents of the La Playa community in Limón Indanza, Morona Santiago, according to a March 10 announcement. The initiative is part of the government’s efforts to improve access to health services in rural and hard-to-reach areas.
The visit aimed to bring timely and free healthcare directly to communities that face challenges accessing medical facilities due to distance and difficult geography. The government said these actions are a priority for Vice President María José Pinto’s administration.
Before arriving, the team prepared medicines, supplies, and medical instruments needed for quality care during the day. A Primary Health Care Technician led educational activities focused on promoting health and preventing disease. Nursing staff administered measles vaccines and reinforced regular immunization schedules, with an emphasis on protecting children and adolescents.
To reach La Playa, the health team walked for about an hour through challenging terrain and adverse weather conditions. This effort was intended to ensure that people who have difficulty traveling to health centers still receive necessary services.
During the event, children, youth, and adults received medical attention prioritizing early diagnosis, disease prevention, and family support. Community member Luis Chumpi expressed gratitude for the visit and highlighted how important it is for healthcare services to reach their locality given transportation difficulties. The brigade’s physician said these interventions help identify local health needs, strengthen preventive measures, and provide ongoing support for families.
The Ministry of Public Health reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening primary healthcare and continuing territorial work so all citizens can access timely medical services.
