The Ministry of Telecommunications and the Information Society has opened a new Free Digital Point (PDG) in Manantial de Chanduy, located in the Chanduy parish of Santa Elena province. The facility aims to provide digital tools, training courses, and online government services to local residents.
Minister Roberto Kury stated at the inauguration, “Only this new PDG, in the commune Manantial de Chanduy, will directly benefit more than 20,500 inhabitants, opening real paths for education, entrepreneurship and connection with the world. None of this would be possible without joint work. Thanks to national and local authorities, to the teams working in the field for their effort, and to you citizens for believing in this project. Technology must be a right, not a privilege, and we are here to make it a reality.”
The new center offers free high-quality internet access, training programs, online government services, and is equipped with ten computers. With its launch, Santa Elena now has 20 PDGs that support technological transformation for people of all ages.
Nationally, since November 2023 there have been 986 PDGs established across Ecuador. These centers have recorded over 10.1 million visits and provided more than 571 thousand training sessions during that period.
According to officials from the Ministry of Telecommunications and the Information Society (MINTEL), these efforts are part of a broader strategy to reduce the digital divide and improve opportunities through technology for Ecuadorian families. The ministry says it remains committed to addressing citizens’ needs by implementing measures aimed at transforming Ecuador’s digital future.
