The Ministry of Education, Sports and Culture (MINEDEC) has announced the opening of a merit-based competition for teachers who are eligible in the specialty of Second to Seventh grade of Basic General Education (EGB). This is the first call for the 2026 Merit and Opposition Competition, part of a public policy aimed at strengthening the national public education system through transparent and technical selection processes.
Registration for this competition will be open from February 2 to February 9 on the official website www.educacion.gob.ec.
A total of 1,000 teaching positions are being offered nationwide. According to MINEDEC, this provides an opportunity for education professionals to join the public teaching sector under criteria that emphasize equal opportunity and professional excellence.
To participate, applicants must meet several requirements: they must be Ecuadorian citizens over 18 years old or foreigners according to relevant laws; possess a third or fourth level degree in education recognized by MINEDEC; appear in the registry of eligible candidates; and certify that they do not fall under any legal prohibitions.
The ministry stated that opening new positions directly contributes to job stability and helps consolidate permanent teaching teams within educational institutions.
“These actions are part of the teacher appreciation policy promoted by the National Government, recognizing teachers as key actors for social and productive development in the country,” said MINEDEC officials.
MINEDEC also reaffirmed its commitment “to quality, inclusive, and equitable public education by ensuring transparent processes that allow for incorporating top professionals into the national education system.”
