The José Félix Valdivieso Hospital in Santa Isabel, Azuay province, is set to receive eight new medical devices in 2025 as part of a government initiative. The investment totals $308,526 and aims to improve the hospital’s operating room, X-ray department, laboratory, dentistry, and gynecology services. The project is managed by the Ministry of Public Health under Vice President María José Pinto and President Daniel Noboa.
The new equipment includes an ultrasound machine, four autoclaves, a portable X-ray device, an anesthesia machine, and a laparoscopic tower.
Pedro Astudillo Rivera, director of the hospital, said: “During this 2025 the hospital has received medical equipment to enhance its problem-solving capacity and guarantee timely care for our patients. These devices allow for more precise diagnoses, more effective treatments and better recovery.”
The government has emphasized upgrading healthcare infrastructure nationwide to provide quality services closer to communities. This effort at José Félix Valdivieso Hospital will benefit not only residents of Santa Isabel but also people from neighboring cantons and provinces such as Loja and El Oro.
Cristian Ortega, a relative of a patient treated at the hospital, expressed gratitude for the improvements: “Thanks to the good care and the new equipment delivered by the Ministry of Public Health, my wife had no problems or inconveniences during her surgery.”
From January to November 2025, the hospital recorded 186,388 patient visits across various departments.
The Ministry stated it will continue efforts to strengthen Ecuador’s healthcare system with concrete actions focused on community health and well-being.
