The National Government, through the Ministry of Energy and Mines and the Empresa Eléctrica Riobamba S.A. (EERSA), has completed public lighting projects in the communities of Calera Yumi and Chaupi Pomaló, located in the San Juan parish of Riobamba canton. The investment for these projects was USD 51,000.

In these Chimborazo province communities, a total of 55 poles, 17 meters, 59 LED luminaires, and four transformers were installed. These improvements are expected to benefit more than 100 residents who primarily work in agriculture and livestock.

Tony Coronel, manager of Empresa Eléctrica Riobamba S.A., stated that serving rural areas is a priority for the company. “Intervenir en el sector rural nos permite entregar servicios públicos que generan progreso y seguridad, contribuyendo al desarrollo integral de nuestras comunidades,” he said.

Oliva Yumi, a resident of Calera Yumi, expressed satisfaction with the completion of the project. “Hace años veníamos solicitando este proyecto de alumbrado. Hoy, gracias a este trabajo, ya es una realidad y estamos muy contentos porque ahora nuestra comunidad cuenta con un mejor servicio,” she said.

María Cando from Chaupi Pomaló also thanked those involved for carrying out this initiative. “Este proyecto es muy importante para nosotros porque genera desarrollo y mejora nuestras condiciones de vida,” she noted.

With this project’s implementation, EERSA reaffirms its commitment to working alongside rural communities in Riobamba canton by providing quality basic services that support social welfare, enhance public safety, and promote local development.
