The government has inaugurated a new public lighting project on the Naranjito–Marcelino Maridueña road, aiming to improve safety and mobility in the area. The initiative was funded with USD 110,000 and carried out by the Ministry of Environment and Energy, with implementation by Corporación Nacional de Electricidad (CNEL EP).

The project included the installation of 180 LED lights of 120 watts each, ten transformers, and 8.5 kilometers of electrical networks. These upgrades are expected to enhance nighttime visibility for drivers and strengthen the region’s electrical infrastructure.

According to official figures, the project directly benefits 13,464 customers in Naranjito canton and 3,652 subscribers in Marcelino Maridueña. It also supports thousands of drivers who use this route daily for transporting essential goods, especially agricultural products.

Minister Inés Manzano commented on the significance of the project: “From its conception, this project was planned as a strategic action for neighboring sectors. Today, with the work operational, it is consolidated as a starting point for residential and commercial growth. Public lighting improves security and mobility conditions and reflects this Government’s decision to promote projects that generate progress and territorial organization.”

Ángel Erazo, general manager of CNEL EP, expressed gratitude for community support during construction: “This intervention represents a first step; our goal is to extend lighting along the entire road, ensuring suitable conditions for transit, safety, and mobility. Naranjito and Marcelino Maridueña are cantons experiencing constant growth and require projects that support their development.”

This new lighting system joins other government initiatives aimed at improving public infrastructure to keep pace with urban expansion and local economic activity.
