The Ministry of Environment and Energy organized the First International Meeting of Global Strategies for Environmental Education from April 14 to 16, aiming to strengthen the exchange of national and international experiences and digital tools for effective environmental education.

The event was part of the National Strategy for Environmental Education, which guides public policy actions in Ecuador. Over three days, technical, methodological, and communication skills were reinforced among 80 environmental educators across the country.

Adriana Moyano, Undersecretary for Strategic Territorial Information, presented the “Mi Comunidad Verde” program. She said: “A través de esta red de actores locales, queremos incorporar cerca de 138 000 promotores ambientales y el desarrollo de 2 750 iniciativas ambientales hasta el 2029.” The program aims to certify community environmental promoters through initiatives in nearly all provinces by collaborating with local actors.

The “Mi Comunidad Verde” initiative focuses on communities, educational institutions, foundations, or groups in vulnerable situations. Strategic partnerships have been established with academia and private sector companies to support community-based environmental education efforts. Freddy Muñoz, Deputy Minister of Water Resources, recognized Environmental Education Ambassadors who will help develop projects in various regions.

The agenda included a visit to the Antisana Water Conservation Area on April 16 to enhance facilitators’ skills through hands-on experiences. These actions are intended to build greater awareness and responsibility among citizens regarding natural resource care.
