The Ministry of Telecommunications and the Information Society (MINTEL) certified 350 residents of La Concordia in digital skills on March 27. The certificates were delivered by Pedro Barzallo, manager of the Free Digital Points program, as part of efforts to promote technological inclusion in Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas province.

The event was attended by local authorities who recognized the achievements of children, youth, adults, transport workers, and merchants who gained new technology competencies. These beneficiaries participated at both the Mega Free Digital Point La Concordia and Barrio Central locations.

Barzallo said that under Minister Roberto Kury’s leadership, the Free Digital Points are being strengthened daily to reduce the digital divide and bring technology closer to those most in need. He also said these initiatives help build citizens’ capacities.

There are currently 32 Free Digital Points operating in the province, which have served more than 439,000 residents across its two cantons and seventeen parishes. In La Concordia canton alone, six centers have provided services to over 51,000 people.

In addition to technology training sessions, institutions such as the National Telecommunications Corporation (CNT) and Civil Registry offered direct services during this event. This approach aligns with what officials described as “the vision of the Government of New Ecuador”—to provide equitable access to public services and technology for all citizens.

MINTEL said it remains committed to expanding training opportunities nationwide with a goal of reducing technological gaps and supporting a more productive and connected Ecuador.
