The Ministry of Telecommunications and the Information Society (MINTEL), under Minister Roberto Kury, has awarded 30 certificates for training in technological tools at the Huarcay Free Digital Point, located in Chillogallo, in southern Quito.

The event was led by Carlos Eduardo Escobar, Undersecretary of Telecommunications and Postal Affairs. He stated, “These actions respond to the commitment of the Government of Nuevo Ecuador to promote digital literacy and reduce the technological gap in the sectors that need it most.”

The Huarcay Digital Point is equipped with 18 laptops and has conducted 509 training sessions between November 2023 and December 2025. These sessions have benefited more than 55,000 residents in the area.

Across Pichincha province, there are 70 Free Digital Points operating. These centers have served over 1.1 million citizens across 56 parishes and seven cantons.

Nationally, the project has recorded more than 10.5 million visits and provided training to over 598,000 people as of December 31, 2025. The initiative is positioned as a key strategy for digital inclusion and social development.

Recipients of today’s certificates completed courses on topics such as ICT Tools, ICT for Children, and ICT Entrepreneurship.

MINTEL remains committed to offering both in-person and virtual digital training programs to include more citizens in the digital world.
