The government, through the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, announced on April 2 that it is carrying out a maintenance project on the E45 “Y” de Baeza – Narupa – Coca road, which has reached 60 percent completion over its 182.5 kilometers.

Authorities led by Subsecretary for Zone 2 Yésica Aigaje, along with inspection teams and the construction company, conducted technical evaluations to address at least 48 critical points along the route. These include bridges, slopes, and road surfaces. Some interventions are already underway while others will be addressed in the short term.

To provide immediate solutions for this key corridor connecting Pichincha, Napo, and Orellana provinces, work includes terracing, installation of culverts, and building retaining walls. These actions aim to ensure continuous and safe travel for about 5,000 daily users of this major Amazonian trunk road.

Aigaje said there has been progress in laying permanent asphalt from Coca to Loreto as well as between Baeza and La Virgen de Guacamayos where a second asphalt layer is being applied. She said appropriate signage will be completed in coming days. “The intervention not only improves connectivity but also generates direct employment,” Aigaje said. She added that around 100 families benefit from microenterprises responsible for routine maintenance such as vegetation trimming and drainage cleaning.

Segundo Grefa, owner of Cooperativa Baños transport company, said: “Having an improved road—even before it is fully finished—has reduced travel times and fuel consumption; above all it provides greater safety and comfort for our passengers.” During their visit officials also inspected ongoing bridge construction at Indillama, Cóndor, Salado Bajo and Salado Alto on the E45A segment linking Coca with Dayuma.

The government reiterated its commitment to working responsibly to deliver projects that improve citizens’ quality of life.
