The Coordinación Zonal 4 of the Ministry of Education, Sport, and Culture presented its 2025 accountability report on Apr. 1 at the Paulo Emilio Macías auditorium of the Technical University of Manabí in Portoviejo. The event was attended by officials from public and private entities, teachers, students, and members of the public.

The report outlined efforts to strengthen the education system under President Daniel Noboa Azín’s administration. Maximiliano Núñez Tomaselli, Zonal Coordinator for Zone 4, said that government initiatives focused on improving access to education, supporting student retention and completion rates for children and youth, enhancing educational quality, recognizing teachers’ work, and strengthening institutional capacity.

“Among the main actions implemented in 2025 in Manabí and Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas is infrastructure investment exceeding $15 million,” Núñez Tomaselli said. “This benefited 70 educational institutions and more than 41,000 students.” He also noted that over $6.8 million was spent on school uniforms for more than 205,000 students.

Núñez Tomaselli reported that “a total of 2,619,215 textbooks were distributed to students at more than two thousand schools,” while the ‘Todos al Aula’ program helped reintegrate hundreds of students into basic education. Additionally, payments totaling nearly $2 million were made to over four thousand scholarship recipients to support their continued studies.

Efforts to improve student nutrition included distributing fresh meals valued at over $2.4 million to more than three hundred thousand students across fiscal schools in both provinces. In total during this period “38,487 students obtained their high school diplomas,” which officials say strengthens secondary education completion rates.

At the end of the event recognitions were given to outstanding students and teachers as well as staff who contributed significantly to strengthening local education systems. Organizers described this annual accountability process as a way to ensure transparency in public management while encouraging citizen participation.
